1. Define the application
A static brochure site, WordPress publication, WooCommerce store and Laravel application have different requirements. Start with software, traffic pattern, data sensitivity and availability needs.
2. Define acceptable failure
How much downtime is tolerable? How much data can you lose? How quickly must you restore service? These questions determine the value of redundancy, backups and support.
3. Define control
Decide whether you need root access, server choices and custom services—or whether those are distractions. Managed platforms intentionally trade some low-level freedom for repeatability.
4. Compare real cost
Include renewal pricing, variable bandwidth/storage, backups, support tiers, migration work and engineering time. Then shortlist providers.
