Start with site type
A cached blog, membership site and WooCommerce store can have completely different server demand at the same traffic level. Identify logged-in and personalized activity first.
Observe saturation
CPU utilization, memory, PHP queueing, database latency and error rates show whether resources are becoming constrained. Hosting dashboards can help, but application-level profiling is often necessary.
Keep headroom
Do not size production to sit at 100% during normal peaks. Leave room for traffic variation, maintenance, background jobs and temporary performance regressions.
